An equipment manufacturer in Jilin Province required a compact method to raise process-water temperature before a cleaning stage. Available floor space was limited, and the heater needed to fit inside a prefabricated skid. A flanged immersion heater installed in a small circulation chamber offered a practical layout. The preliminary duty was calculated from the water flow and required temperature rise, with allowance for vessel and pipe losses at the local winter design temperature. The element bundle was divided into stages so the control system could match variable production demand.
The design review focused on flange size, chamber velocity, sensor location, venting, drainability, and service clearance. A control sensor regulated outlet temperature, while an independent high-limit sensor provided separate protection. Low-flow logic prevented the heater from energizing until pump operation was confirmed.
For skid builders, early coordination prevents costly changes. Runkel recommends sending a three-dimensional space envelope or fabrication drawing together with voltage, flow, temperatures, pressure, materials, connection standard, and I/O requirements. With these inputs, the heater can be designed as part of the skid instead of becoming a late-stage component that is difficult to install or maintain.
The skid builder would also need to consider fabrication tolerances. The heater terminal enclosure must remain accessible after piping, insulation, and instruments are installed. Cable bend radius, element withdrawal space, support loads, drain points, and the location of nearby valves should be shown on the general arrangement drawing before the vessel is manufactured.
Factory testing could include resistance, insulation, wiring continuity, sensor checks, and dimensional verification against the approved drawing. During site startup, actual flow and phase current would be recorded before the heater reaches full output. This staged verification helps the skid manufacturer identify installation or control issues before continuous operation.
